It’s been just few days since I started my blog and ventured into the online world, and I’ve already received over 30000 views and close to 150 comments! I wish to thank all those who have taken an interest to interact with me. We politicians are generally spoiled by sycophancy and rarely get to know the real public opinion about us and the work we do. This was precisely the reason for using this platform to interact and begin blog. So far I have received about 150 comments on 6 posts. Most of these comments have been encouraging but some of you have criticized me and my beliefs. Such is the potential of this medium! I welcome all critiques and will always try to put forward my point of view. Let me talk about these subjects one by one with an effort to provide my perspective…

  1. A few of my online friends have blamed me and my leader for being pro-Muslim, owing to what we did on the Babri Mosque issue, and also for my recent outburst against the BJP in the Parliament. Allow me to explain the Samajwadi Party’s stand on this burning issue. We are above anything, a secular party, and our stand is very clear on this issue. The national parties have been playing “politics of religion”. The BJP has evoked sentiments of Hindus by promising to build a temple, while the Congress had promised to build a mosque for the Muslims. Both of these parties have had a fair amount of power at the Centre since 1992, but NONE have even gotten close to fulfilling their promises. The Liberahan Commission claims to have worked tirelessly for 16 years to submit a report that one man could have done in well under 16 days. The legal proceedings of Babri case have been continuing without result for 18 years and these powerful political players like it this way! It suits them not to push for a faster legal process because politically it does not suit them. Our stand is clear from the very beginning – put the case in fast track and enforce the implementation of the Court’s decision. As far as my outburst in Parliament is concerned, let me tell you how it happened? Immediately after “Liberahan Report” was tabled in Rajyasabha, some MPs from saffron party started shouting “Jai Shriram” & Jai Bajarangbali. For the first time I saw sharp reaction coming from minority MPs who reacted by chanting “Ya Ali”. I really got scared of thought that now even parliament is going to get divided on religious lines. Only one thought came in my mind at that point in time that I have to stop it… then what happened you all know…it was an impulsive and instant reaction, nonetheless I am greatly embarrassed of it. Parliament is a temple of democracy not a place to raise slogans either for Ali or Bajarang Bali. Both communities should refrain from doing such things in parliament otherwise scenes of street fights will erupt in the parliament too which is already ailing from frequent disruptions and indiscipline.
  2. It is very easy to call any one corrupt only on the basis of conjectures and hearsay. I am no exception to this and have no complains. If some elements of society were not kind to even Mata Sita then who the hell I am? My detractors are free to feel the way they wish I am answerable only to my conscious, my well wishers and those close to my heart. Fortunately, they understand me, love me, respect me and appreciate me. By the way much before joining public life I had started my business and had earned most of my wealth; usually its other way around. All that glitters is not gold, in the same manner all that you come to know through media about my so called donation to Clinton Foundation comparable to Warren Buffet and Bill Gates of the world is not absolute truth. Yes my relationship with Clintons is a stark reality which I don’t deny. I can only assure you that I have never violated any law of the land while dealing with Clintons. Yes, in the past I have donated to lot of money for various causes in India. I would also like to inform you that I am a major contributor to a charitable organization (The Nistha Foundation) which is attempting to reach out to the needy through its voluntary actions. Charity isn’t about assessment; it’s about opening your heart, mind and pockets towards those in greater need than you.
  3. Someone has suggested me not to waste my time blogging but to do some thing more constructive. Please come out with specific constructive proposal, if feasible I assure you that I will make an attempt to follow. Unfortunately I am not a St Stephens College and Doon School alumnae, which restricts my acceptability in elite creamy section of society. I also realize that my affiliation with pro-backward party like Samajwadi Party also does not help the cause. Precisely, for this reason, a man of humble middle class origin is trying to get in touch with your spectrum. Howsoever, I think I deserve the right to raise my voice on any platform and use my time the way I wish. Thank you for the comment but you may or may not continue reading my blog which will continue regardless.
  4. I have received a number of comments on the Ruchika Post. One of you even went as far as saying said that I am not capable of doing anything meaningful on this issue because I’m afraid of Chautalaiji. Let me tell you this- It is a sensitive issue and like other similar issues, it is bound to get politicized. Abhi toh blame-game shuru hua ha! Therefore, I would not like to get into this. But let me tell you when it comes to “wrongs and rights”, forget about Chautalaji, I have not even restrained from criticizing my own leader Sri Mulayam SInghji when I believed him to be in the wrong. I assure you that I would try to do my best to ensure that Ruchika and her family gets justice. But only after this case is out of the purview of the legal system and its proceedings are deemed complete. As law-abiding citizens, we must allow the judiciary to take its course and thereafter if we feel wronged, it is completely within our right to contest it in a civil manner.

I may not be able to respond to each of you individually but I am reading all your comments and would try to address all of them like this post. I would continue to welcome your criticisms and would make a sincere endeavor to present my perspective and this is precisely the reason for which we are here. You all are my esteemed friends and you should feel free to be critical of me whenever you feel that way after all I have had enough of sycophancy.
