In politics one has to be thick skin. Many times here misdeed receives bouquets and modesty earns brickbats. Here caste, class and community play a major role while determining your prospect. You need to be both innocent and shrewd at the same time while dealing with others. What you preach, you do not practice and what you practice, you do not preach. Sycophancy brings pleasure and frankness earns bitterness.

Politics is a football of sycophancy where the political players believe ‘hit the player not the ball’. And the politicians have fondness of different forms of sycophancy. That sycophancy has not only developed the feet-touching prescription but also it has a different excitement over a garland of currency notes. You may not agree, just ask the players like Netaji and Behenji? Don’t be scared, you won’t be prosecuted. Alas, you haven’t seen such a garland before. It is nothing but a nutritious show of muscle. The other significant modes of felicitations are weighing politicians in gold or silver coins, high denomination of currency notes and presenting of silver or gold crowns and swords. Here politician is an object worshipped by his/her subjects as chela, chamcha and cronies. A politico is encircled by a group of sycophants whose job is to gratify the master by any means.

Both sycophancy and sycophants are the part of Indian politics, so, more the sycophants larger the garland. The garland can be made of anything from currencies to veggies. This periodic vulgarity is good because it sells news. While going by this precision, it is better to quote Adolf Hitler who once said “Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it”. After all “power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely”.

In last 2 months I have crisscrossed the state of Uttar Pradesh and have received a huge support from all sections of the society. All this while, I have felt that people are trying to find some one who could liberate the state from the clutches of Netaji and Bahanji. I have seen fire in their eyes and power in their arms to change the state of affaires. Despite being in active politics for close to one and half decade, first time I am directly connecting to people but at the same time first time I find myself on a political cross road. If I could follow the “politics of sycophancy” I am sure, things would have been different. But I can’t do so, will continue to fight my battle alone and I am sure people will respond to my call.
